    1. The restaurant at the St Regis – formerly known as ‘Olives’ – The dining facility at the St Regis has fantastic food. I highly recommend the breakfast buffet. It is world class. It definitely has ambiance and top flite service, but for the most part lacks the “scene” of some of the other picks as well as others that did not make the top 5. Generally the dining room is not crowded. Stands at the top for the extremely high quality of the food with pleasing service as well. Serving breakfast from 7 to 11, lunch from 11:30 to 2, and dinner from 6 to 10. If you go for lunch try the burger.

    2. Brexi – This hot spot has the ambiance, food as well as the ‘scene’. The filet mignon is absolutely to die for, the best I have ever had. Salads are wonderful for those seeking lighter fare. Attractive wait staff and attention to detail with presentation bring this eatery to #2 on my Aspen Dining “5 Top Stops”

    3. L’Hostoria – Owners Titizano and Enrica Gortan serve up authentic Italian cuisine with side of hospitality in this old time Aspen favorite. With every ingredient hand made on site it is no wonder that they just celebrated their 15 anniversary in a town where restaurants come and go with the snow!

    4. Jimmy’s – Another old time favorite. Jimmy’s has somewhat of a casual atmosphere and the bar can get somewhat rowdy especially late. The food is good and the menu tends to be more conservative / “fierce American” than the other selections on the list. If you are looking for a good time, a great steak and a Manhattan to top it off Jimmy’s is just the ticket.

    5. Boogies – This is another Aspen Institution. Boogie Wineglass has done much for both local and national charities. The ambiance is Americana Diner ala 1950. It definitely is in a different class than the 4 above mentioned stops, however if you come to Aspen you need to eat here.

    Honorable mention – The Hickory House AKA “The Hick” – best BBQ west of the Mississippi – combined with a decided lack of ambiance! Worth a stop however. The Ajax Tavern – slope side fine dining what more can you ask for, people watching at the base of the Gondola for Apres Ski. The Cantina – good Mexican food and bar with reasonable prices in the core.

  • September was the strongest transaction month since April 2008, with a total of 86
  • September boasted the second strongest dollar month of the year
  • $137,723,013 – total dollars for the month, an increase of 38% from September 2010
  • 86 – total transactions for the month, an increase of 38.7% from September 2010
  • Through September, dollars total $977,073,114 – an increase of 18.8% from same time period 2010
  • Through September, transactions total 584, an increase of 16.8% from same time period 2010
  • Aspen posted 34 transactions and $88.7 million, Intervals posted 24 and $8.8 million, Basalt 9 and $7 million, Snowmass Village 8 and $16 million, Old Snowmass 5 and $15.4 million, Woody Creek 2 and $449,440, Carbondale 1 at $1.04 million, and Redstone 1 at $250,000.  The remaining $6,000 was 2 quit claim transfers with doc fees
  • Bank Sales for the month totaled 3 with a dollar volume of $1.74 million.  This accounts for 3.5% of the transactions and 1.3% of the dollar volume
    • 1 – Aspen, 1 – Basalt, and 1 – Interval Unit
  • Through September, there have been a total of 45 bank sales in the county with a total of $30.3 million.  This accounts for nearly 8% of the transactions and 3% of the dollars
  • Notable sales for the month included:  Highest Priced – $9.6 million for a single family residence in the City of Aspen, Highest PPSF – $2,858/foot for Commercial office space on Main Street with a sales price of $314,388
  • The average single family sold price through September is $4,118,399 – a decrease of 5% from full year 2010
  • The median single family sold price through September is $3,537,500 – an increase of 11% from full year 2010
  • September fractional dollars totaled $8,772,000 – a decrease of 7% from September 2010
  • September fractional transactions totaled 24 – an increase of 26% from September 2010
    • Hyatt Grand Aspen – 14, Ritz Carlton – 4, Little Nell – 2, Roaring Fork Club PUD – 2, Roaring Fork Club Suites – 1, and St. Regis – 1
  • Through September, fractional dollars total $75,886,799 – an increase of 5% from same time period 2010
  • Through September, fractional transactions total 175 – an increase of 31% from same time period 2010

    Generally speaking the older you are and the worse heath you are in the higher your premiums will be.  If you smoke your premiums will be anywhere from double to triple than for non smokers.
