Roaring Fork Fishing Report for 8/10/09

The Roaring Fork is looking fantastic right now, clear and running about 600 CFS BEAUTIFUL…

5 fish in 6 casts this evening!

Unbelievable, not to mention highly statistically improbable, but that is the life insurance agent talking in me not the fisherman.

As I approached the river in a mid valley location it became apparent that these were some of the best conditions that I have ever seen.  Highly aesthetic, nymphing with just Old Skool size 12 prince nymphs with baetis, PT’s or RS2’s droppers.

Wow, you need to get here ASAP. The conditions just do not get better. 5x fluorocarbon tippet is sufficient as there are snags and powerful water with some fairly big fish and they are not horribly spooky. Purists may disagree but I like to use a larger line diameter when at all possible.

In 20 minutes of plying the waters I caught 4 browns, one small, 3 in the 16-18 inch range and a spectacular 22” rainbow!

Currently it is too shallow to use a drift boat, so if you do not have your own raft I would recommend going with Will and the boys over at Taylor Creek. They are now on twitter and you can follow them at http://twitter.com/tcreekflyshop I recommend it they are a great resource for updates on all conditions on all valley water check with them before you come for the beta. http://taylorcreek.com luv them!
